چکیده

Abstract In the southeastern part of Chios Island, Greece, exotic blocks amphibolites and serpentinized peridotite can be found within a narrow, approximately N–S elongated area adjacent to non-metamorphosed sedimentary strata Triassic age its west Cenozoic east. this work, we present for first time petrological mineral chemical data ultramafic rock fragments from SE describe their possible origin estimate metamorphic pressure–temperature conditions overprint. The protoliths were mafic rocks enriched (Type I amphibolite) normal II mid-ocean ridge character metamorphosed under upper amphibolite-facies at 640–780 °C 5–7 kbar. U–Pb isotopic titanite three yielded early Middle Late Jurassic lower intercept ages, which interpret as metamorphism during oceanic lithosphere emplacement. is strongly serpentinized, mainly containing lizardite, implies low-grade conditions. With exception alteration rims, Cr- Mg-numbers chrome spinel range 10–26 69–79, respectively, similar abyssal peridotites subcontinental lithospheric mantle. We suggest that represent separate mélange, most likely tectonic rather than accretionary origin. Metamorphism took place prior presumed emplacement in mélange. preserve different sort signature largely reported elsewhere Eastern Mediterranean ophiolite belts. A correlation with mélange units western Turkey or northern and/or southern Aegean region discussed.
